BlueStreak Connect Suite System Security Overview
System availability and security are concerns for any law enforcement agency. Ensuring your data is available to you and secure at all times is critical to your agencies mission. BlueStreak Connect secures sensitive data throughout the entire process of collection, transmission, storage, and backup. We understand that this is crucial to the use of any law enforcement information system.
The process of ensuring that your information is secure and available begins long before you log into the BlueStreak Connect Suite. Whether in the form of incident reports or other data, BlueStreak Connect provides a multiple layered security system that adheres to industry best practices to ensure data security and availability.
Our security measures are designed to deter, detect and deny any type of intrusion or interruption in service. Backup measures are in place to provide service in the event of interruption to our primary systems.
Security starts for users at log in with unique user IDs and passwords. Once the user is authenticated in our system a secure session (the time you are connected to our server) begins. All data viewed or collected while connected is encrypted in high standard (128 bit) encryption. Secure transmission of data is assured by SSL technology. SSL technology (Secure Socket Layer) provides the strongest form of encryption available. We use the highest level (128 bit) encryption to create a secure connection from the PC to the server. Once a session reaches a certain length of inactivity, the system logs the user off automatically.
BlueStreak Connect servers are housed in a secure data center with around the clock monitoring. The data center employs only professionals with many years of experience operating secure network operations centers (Data centers).
Our security infrastructure provides security that can be described in two broad categories: Physical and logical security.
Physical security
Service is provided and data is stored at a secure data center that combines physical security in multiple layers. These include:
- 24x7x365 staffing on site
- State of the art servers / redundant equipment
- Access control
- Surveillance
- Multiple main telecomm lines and carriers
- Back up power generation / Uninterrupted power supply
- Incipient smoke detection and fire control
- Disaster recovery protocols
- Network redundancy
Logical Security
From the time a user logs on until data is stored and backed up it is secured using several advanced data security technologies. These include:
- Authentication (password protected access)
- SSL Encryption (Secure Socket Layer- 128 bit encryption) throughout the system
- Timed log off (Session ended if no user activity)
- Firewalls (Industrial grade protection to deny unauthorized connections)
- Data back ups (Encrypted backups to an offsite location many times daily)
Our data center has attained SaS 70 Type II (Statement on Auditing Standards) certification by an independent auditing firm (Deloitte and Touché, LLP). This stringent independent certification ensures the data center follows industry best practices.
We are often asked about “hacking”. The reality is that “hackers” account for only a very small percentage of data loss and data theft. The fact is that most data loss is a result of lost or stolen equipment such as laptops. When using the BlueStreak Connect suite your data is not stored on your local computer. Therefore, even if your computers were stolen, no data would be compromised.
Summary: While no system can provide 100% guarantee of security, every precaution is taken to ensure Blue Streak Connect provides maximum uptime, data security and availability.
